The very first Airport City Developers Forum was held in September 2023. The event was not expected to result in any significant outcomes, other than the opportunity to come together and discuss current practices at various airports.

Following the disruption to personal contact and exchange caused by the pandemic, and the subsequent cancellation of numerous conferences, there was a strong demand for communication and knowledge.

Vienna Airport assumed the initiative by extending an invitation to airport authorities responsible for the development of airport cities.

The subjects were addressed from a high-level perspective:

  • How can we define an airport city?
  • Are we facing similar challenges at the different airports?
  • Can we define mutual and comparable KPIs?
  • What are the key elements required for a successful airport city?
  • Which stakeholder are involved?

etcetera.

The subjects were grouped and categorised during workgroup sessions, and it was agreed that further meetings would be held to explore some of the most significant areas in more detail.
